Secrets of Grief

Secrets of Grief

Come, Holy Spirit, come through the powerful intercession of Mary, your beloved Spouse. (3×)

– let’s kiss the cross of the rosary, with the prayer: O Jesus, it is for Your love, for the conversion of sinners and as compensation for the insults inflicted on the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amen.

– God, come to my aid.
– Lord, hurry to help me.

1. Prayer, and the arrest of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane

© There is also one’s own path of prayer, pain, and even feelings of betrayal… Oh, Heavenly Father, have mercy on us…

From the Holy Gospel of Matthew (Mt 26, 36-56)

Then Jesus came with them to the place called Gethsemane and said to the disciples: “Sit here while I go over there to pray.” And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee. He was overcome with grief and anguish. Then He said to them: “My soul is sad to death.” Stay here and watch with me!’

And He went a little further, fell on His face begging: “My Father! If possible, let this glass pass me by. But not as I want, but as You want.”

And He came to the disciples and found them asleep, so He said to Peter: “Well, couldn’t you have stayed awake with me for an hour?” Watch and pray that you do not fall into temptation! It is true that the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” Again, for the second time, he went and prayed: “My Father! If it is not possible for the cup to pass me by without drinking it, Thy Will be done!” And He came again and found them asleep, their eyes closed. He left them again, went and prayed a third time, repeating the same words.

Then He came to the disciples and said to them: »Just sleep and rest! Here, the hour is near! The Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners! Get up, let’s go! Here, my traitor has come closer.”

While He was still speaking, behold, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, sent by the chief priests and elders of the people. And the traitor gave them a sign: “Whomever I kiss, it is he, catch him!” And he immediately approached Jesus and said: “Hail, Master!” And kissed Him. And Jesus said to him: “Friend, why are you here!” Then they approached, raised their hands on Jesus and caught Him.

And behold, one of those who were with Jesus waved his hand, drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear. Then Jesus said to him: “Put the sword back in its place, because all who take the sword fall by the sword and perish.” Or do you think that I cannot ask my Father and there are more than twelve legions of angels with me?

But then, how would the Scriptures be fulfilled if it had to be like that?”

Then all the disciples leave Him and run away.

2. The merciless scourging of our Lord Jesus Christ

© When Love itself is given and given… It is given uncompromisingly and extended to almost the last Drop of the Holy Blood – a pledge of the Holy Eternity of many souls. Condemned and scourged Saviour, have mercy on us

From the Holy Gospel of Matthew (27, 1-2. 11-26)

And in the morning, all the chief priests and elders held a council against Jesus to put Him to death. And they took Him away bound and handed Him over to the governor Pilate.

So they brought Jesus before the governor. The administrator asked Him: “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered: “You say.” And while the chief priests and the elders of the people accused Him, He did not answer anything. Then Pilate said to Him: “Don’t you hear what they are all testifying against You?” And He did not answer him a single word, and the governor was greatly surprised.

And on the holiday, the warden used to release one student to the congregation, whom they already wanted. At that time there was a well-known prisoner called Baraba among them. When they had gathered together, Pilate said to them: “Whom do you want me to release to you: Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christ?” He knew indeed that they handed Him over out of envy.

While he was sitting on the judge’s chair, his wife said to him: “You miss the Righteous One, because today in my dream I suffered a lot because of Him.”

However, the chief priests and elders persuade the crowd to ask for Barabbas, and Jesus to be executed. So the governor asked them: “Which of these two do you want me to release to you?” And they said: “Barabbas!” Pilate said to them: “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They said: “Let him be crucified.” And he asked: “And what evil did he do?” They shouted even louder: “Let him be crucified!”

When Pilate saw that it was of no use, but that there was an increasing commotion, he took water and washed his hands in front of the congregation, saying: “I am innocent of this Blood!” You take care!” All the people responded to that: “His blood be on us and on our children!” Then he released Barabbas to them, and Jesus, whipped, was handed over to be crucified.

3. Thorn crowning of our Lord Jesus Christ

© Who among us in his life has not experienced complete ridicule, criticism, mockery…accusation?! Oh, our Teacher… He teaches us to be very patient in those moments, and in the interior of the prayer itself

From the Holy Gospel of Mark (Mk 15, 16-20)

The soldiers took Him into the interior of the palace, that is, into the praetorium, then called together the whole company and clothed Him in scarlet; they braided a crown of thorns and placed it on His Head and stopped to greet Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they hit Him on the Head with a reed; they spat on Him and bowed their knees to Him. And when they had mocked Him, they took off His scarlet and put His garments on Him.

© In front of the Beauty of Grace itself, and in front of the trace of Holiness itself, we remain to experience the Closeness and Presence of the Son of holy Eternity

From the Holy Gospel of Luke (Lk 23, 26-32)

When they took Him away, they arrested a certain Simon of Cyrene who was coming from the field and put a cross on him to carry after Jesus.

A great multitude of the world followed Him, especially women, who wept and wailed for Him. Jesus turned to them and said to them: “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and your children. Because the days are coming when it will be said: ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that do not give birth and the breasts that do not nurse.’ Then they will start saying to the mountains: ‘Fall on us!’ and hills: ‘Cover us!’ Because if you treat a green tree like that, what will happen to a dry tree?’

And they took the other two, criminals, to be executed with Him.

© With one Cry… even with one Cry itself… everything becomes known… everything becomes clear… everything is said…

From the Holy Gospel of John (Jn 19, 28-30)

After that, as Jesus knew that everything was finished, in order to fulfill the Scripture, he said: “I am thirsty.” And there stood a vessel full of vinegar. And they put on a hyssop reed sponge soaked in vinegar, and brought it close to His Mouth.

As soon as Jesus took the vinegar, he said: “It is finished!” And bowing his head, he gave up the Spirit.
