Hymn in honor of St. Joseph
– st. Ljudevit Maria Grignion of Montfort
Let’s sing a hymn in honor of St. Joseph, protector and fiance of Mary. Humble Joseph is little known. No one here on Earth knew him, but he enchants the blessed. Let Earth unite with Heaven and let all praise him. Great saint, God found only you to be worthy to be the betrothed of his wonderful Mother. Spouse of the Queen of Heaven, it is a wonderful privilege… Witness of Her Holiness, guardian of Her Purity… oh glory incomparable.
The Eternal Father asked you to feed His Son on Earth, to be His deputy. You carried on your chest the One who holds everything in His Hand; by a unique mission you were the nurturer of God, your own Father. Who has seen how you love each other, laugh and hug with immense love?! The smiles of Jesus pierced your heart and filled it with sweetness. Completely immersed in His Love, you responded to Him with the words: My dearest son, I love You.
If Mary’s three words could consecrate St. Ivana, together with his mother Elizabeth… what all those holy and sweet conversations in your home did not provoke in you. The Word of Jesus thrilled you. His presence was filled with Grace and Light. How much was your humility. She encouraged you to keep the Secret in silence, to stand last in line, to live like a poor carpenter, to look like a poor and ignorant man; without special abilities, without giftedness, without special looks and prudence.
The more you humbled yourself, the more God lifted you up to himself, to his glory. Your merits are marvelous. Your privileges are too great. Heaven admires your splendor, and the Earth is full of your graces that reach all the way to Purgatory. We never ask you in vain. Your guarantee and intercession, as St. Teresa, are exalted. Your Son is a glorious God. Your betrothed, Queen of Heaven. By begging, you command them. Everything you ask, be done. Oh, what immeasurable powers!
© Beloved St. Joseph the Righteous, through our prayers and intercession, help us strongly before the Face of Heaven, so that the Lord himself and Heaven itself have mercy on us…
saint Joseph
(Montfort continues as if St. Joseph himself were speaking):
Try to be last in everything. Spread yourself and hide in Jesus and Mary! Seek what the world avoids and run from what the world runs after. Act only according to Faith, so that by imitating my life you will be happy with me.
Let’s pray.
Saint Joseph, be my patron and beg for a great gift: divine Wisdom, in order to show worthy glory to the Savior, to convert sinful man, help the poor and despised and defeat my enemies. Charity encourages you to do so. God alone.
